This posture helps you to breath properly, stimulates the endocrine and circulatory systems and helps to tone the lower back and spine.
2. Half Lotus (Ardha Padmasana): This a great transition pose for those of you working towards sitting comfortably in lotus position. Try half lotus position and see if it works bests for you by lifting one foot and gently resting it on the opposing knee. That’s all! You’re half way to lotus position now
In half lotus, you’ll reap similar benefits to meditating in full lotus, just to a lesser extent.
3. The Diamond Pose (Vajarasna): Also known as the kneeling pose or zen pose, this is a simple pose where you sit on top of your heels (you’re sitting on your knees) with your spine stretching upwards. It’s common to rest your hands (palms facing down) on your thighs when practicing in the diamond pose.
This position is beneficial because the reflexology points on your feet are stimulated when seated upon, breathing is effortless and digestion is aided.
4. The Easy Pose (Sukhasana): This is the easiest pose and I recommend it for beginners or for those of you who are not naturally flexible. You simply sit cross-legged but this time rather than resting your ankles on your knees, you align both heels in front of one another on the ground.

Now imagine if you incorporate gratitude into your daily meditation practice. Unfortunately I don’t have a statistic for the power of this, but in my opinion your daily appreciation and overall happiness will drastically increase and soar past 25%!
Expressing gratitude and meditating on a daily basis are both extremely powerful and important rituals that I encourage you to incorporate into your day-to-day life. A lot of people keep special gratitude journals dedicated solely to what they’re grateful for while some people choose to verbalize their gratitude to others or simply express it mentally.
I choose to express my gratitude in more ways than one and this includes expressing gratitude throughout my meditation sessions!
1. The first thing I do when I turn on my computer every morning is visit www.gratitudelog.com.
It’s an awesome online community where you can express gratitude and appreciation for anything in your life! You can also use gratitude log to send notes of appreciation to those special people in your life. I recommend checking this site out because it’s something positive that’s easy to add into your life.
2. I also express gratitude when I’m laying in bed at night. It’s usually when I close my eyes and I still have a few thoughts running through my mind that I choose to direct my attention on the wonderful things of my day. Sometimes I’m grateful for a productive day at work or for eating healthy and going to the gym. Sometimes I’m grateful for my loving family and friends.
3. Last but not least I express gratitude when I meditate. I make sure to express gratitude for what I have and what I want when I meditate but by no means do I focus all of my energy on this. Now it might sound a bit odd to be grateful for something I don’t have but I know that the meditative state is powerful and if I act like I already have something then my subconscious will believe it and work towards achieving it! Cool, right?
Try incorporating gratitude into your daily routine and remember to express gratitude during your meditation sessions. It’s a great way to “kill two birds with one stone” and work towards conquering your goals and being thankful for what you already have in your life!

Yes, it’s true…you really can meditate anywhere!
So why not incorporate meditation into your daily routine at work and create a daily meditation routine?
Now this might sound like an idea that you do not want to further explore, but there are a lot of great benefits to be had by making the conscious choice to meditate on the job.
Speaking from personal experience, I find that I’m much more productive on the days that I meditate at work. I work in an amazing, supportive environment where everyone believes in bettering themselves (yes, we even have a meditation room at work!) but I do realize this isn’t the case for all.
Don’t be discouraged if this type of work environment doesn’t sound familiar to you because there are ways around the stiff corporate atmosphere which will help you bring more zen into your day!
1. Schedule an extra 10-15 minutes into your morning routine and try meditating in your car before you enter work for the day! This is a great way to start the day off right and rid yourself of the morning stresses in your life such as traffic jams or getting the kids off to school on time. Set the alarm on your phone and simply sit in peace for an allotted period of time. You can even choose to listen to relaxing meditation audios in your car while doing this.
2. If your work place is like most, you have 1 or 2 coffee breaks throughout the day so why not turn this time into a meditation break? Go into a meeting room, find a bench outside or make a trip to your car but find a quiet place where you can take 10 minutes of solitude for yourself.
If you want to set yourself up for a successful day, try incorporating meditation into your daily work routine. It’s a great way to set your intentions for the day and re-focus your energy when you slip off track!
Your meditation goal might be to achieve a calm, peaceful state of mind (known as mindfulness meditation) or maybe you choose to meditate and visualize your way to success. Focusing on something positive and visualizing a successful outcome in a meditative state is a great way to actually accomplish what you want. It’s safe to say that we all have those certain activities we’d rather not do, but there are also the activities that we love to do! The kind of activities that bring us peace, happiness and a sense of calm. The ones that we do when we’re putting off those other dreaded tasks.

There are two general types of meditation, active and passive, but most people link general thoughts of meditating to the passive meditation category. Yeah, I guess it’s more common, but is it as much fun as active meditating?
Active meditating involves numerous activities such as walking (most commonly practiced in the Buddhist meditation practice) or dancing (commonly known as Sufi Whirling). Osho, a well known meditation and spiritual guru, is a fan of active meditating and has created many types of of meditations that fall under this category.
Realize that walking and dancing are not the only types of active meditation out there!
Remember those activities that popped into your mind at the beginning of this article? Bring those back into the picture right now because they may very well be your meditative activity.
Finely chopping food is one of my meditative activities. Now this might sound bizarre, but I get a lot of satisfaction out of calmly chopping vegetables and fruits. I find that I’m completely in the moment and by the time I finish this task I’m relaxed and my tension from the day has disappeared. My roommate loves to cook. For her, the entire act of cooking is meditative and she often cooks late at night to unwind before she sleeps.
Maybe folding laundry, weight lifting or yoga are meditative activities for you. Whatever it is, make sure to incorporate your satisfying, meditative activity into your daily routine. You’ll become much more relaxed and you’ll naturally incorporate a meditation practice into your day!
