Hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific research studies have demonstrated the efficacy of meditation for improving health, preventing disease, accelerating personal growth and even reversal of aging.

But with so many different types of meditation available, how does one choose a suitable, effective meditation technique for oneself or one's family?

Here are some timesaving tips from a longtime meditator and 35-year meditation teacher to help you evaluate which meditation technique might be best for you.

The first step is to recognize that not all meditation techniques are the same. The various meditation practices engage the mind in different ways.

Vipassna, also commonly, and perhaps loosely, known as mindfulness meditation, emphasizes dispassionate observation and, in its more philosophical form, the contemplation of impermanence, sometimes focusing on the interconnection between mind and body.

Zen Buddhist practices are likely to use concentration, whether directed at one's breath or at trying to grasp a Zen koan. The Transcendental Meditation technique uses effortless attention to experience subtle states of thoughts and 'transcend' by use of a specialized mantra.

Christian Centering Prayer uses a word of worship to stimulate receptiveness towards God. And this is just a small sampling of the variety of practices commonly lumped together as 'meditation.'

Different techniques have different aims, employ a variety of procedures and naturally produce different results. In determining which technique among this wide variety of practices might best suit your purposes, start by asking yourself what you want out of meditation, and how much time you're willing to give it. Some meditation programs emphasize regular or twice-daily practice over time to achieve maximum benefit and evolve to higher stages of personal growth, while other practices are intended for an occasional inspirational boost or to chill when you're stressed.

Are you seeking to achieve inspiration and insights during the meditation experience? Meditations that fall into this category are contemplative techniques. They promise greater depth of understanding about the topic being contemplated and help the intellect fathom various avenues of thoughts. These types of meditations can be pleasant and emotionally uplifting, especially if there is no straining or mind control involved. Often these practices are performed with the guidance of a CD, instructor or derived from a book.

The great thing about meditating is that you can do it anytime and anywhere. You can meditate indoors or outdoors. In a public location or in a private setting. The options are endless and it's up to you to decide how to carry out your meditation practice.

It's very common to create a meditation room or sacred meditating space in the home. Creating that special meditation room will help you to relax and unwind and ease naturally into your meditation practice. What works for your friend or colleague might not necessarily work for you, so take the time to get in touch with yourself and figure out what suites you best.

Zen Meditation Made Simple - Learn More

When creating your special meditation room, take the time to think about what colors relax you? Maybe it's a calming color like lavender or blue. Maybe you prefer a deeper color like brown or burgundy. Whatever the answer is, the choice is yours! Have fun with it and don't be afraid to step outside the box to create a space that is uniquely yours. Color therapy talks about the different effects of certain colors, tones and shades so do some research on this if it sounds like something you're interested in.

Remember to think about what kind of furniture and accessories you want in your meditation room. Do you want to sit on the floor, on a mat, on a chair, on a couch? Again, your choices are endless so choose whatever's best for you.

And don't forget to think about lighting for your meditation room. Do you meditate the best in daylight, in the dark or somewhere in between? Maybe candle light is the perfect lighting for you. You might not know the answer to this question immediately, so don't be afraid to play around with lighting until you find what's best for you!

Creating a meditation room will enhance your meditating experience and will allow you to reap all of the benefits of meditation in a calm, peaceful setting. And remember, there are many places to meditate and there is no right or wrong. There's just a "right for you!"

Myth #1: Meditation is a religion

Wrong. Meditation is NOT a religion. Many people are unfamiliar with meditation and this could be part of the reason people view it as a religion. The good news is that people from various religions meditate on a regular basis. It's a personal choice so don't be afraid to learn more about meditation today!

Myth #2: You MUST Meditate in Lotus Position

For those of you new to meditation (or yoga) you're probably wondering what the heck lotus is! It's simply a position where you sit cross-legged, but with one leg calf resting on the other. Lotus is a common position for meditating, but it's NOT a requirement for this practice! Surprisingly, you can meditate while you sit, stand, walk, dance and more. It's not as boring as you may think

Myth #3: To Meditate Means To Not Think

Ok, yes, you always hear people talk about quieting the mind and putting a stop to the endless mind chatter but this doesn't mean that you turn your brain off and teach yourself not to think. Meditation is about becoming truly present and aware of yourself. It's definitely not about turning yourself off!

Myth #4: Relaxation = Meditation

Here's another one that can throw people for a loop! Yes, people who meditate often become more relaxed but this doesn't mean that that's all meditation is about. To meditate is NOT to relax and to relax is NOT to meditate.

Myth #5: Meditating is for New Age Hippies

There's a preconceived image of meditation and the people that meditate. There's a common misconception about meditation today because people base their opinion on false beliefs. Well I'm here to let you know that this is NOT the case! Meditation is very common among all groups of people, in fact, a lot of successful business executives meditate! The benefits are so great and diverse that it appeals to all types of people.

Myth #6: You Must Chant to Meditate Properly

While there are certain types of meditating that use mantras (these are what people chant!), this does not apply to all types. In fact, most meditations require you to be silent vs. vocal so this is good news for all of you shy people out there who prefer silence over noise

If I Meditate, I'll Go into a Trance.

Some people claim to enter into trance-like states when they meditate, but this is not the norm and it definitely doesn't mean that you'll enter into a trance if you try to meditate.

Myth #8: You Must Be In A Quiet Environment To Meditate

It's common for people to meditate in a quiet environment, but this is not a prerequisite for meditation. Max Simon is a meditation guru who believes that meditating in noisy, public places is a great way to achieve a deeper level of self-awareness. He refers to them as PDM's or Public Displays of Meditation. Get a new persepctive on meditation and check out this PDM video on FinerMinds today. http://daily.finerminds.com/exclusive/max-simon-meditation-benefit/

Myth #9: You Can Only Learn How To Meditate By Taking A Course

Many people believe that to learn how to meditate properly they must spend a ton of money on expensive meditation courses. Yes, you can choose to attend a meditation retreat if you wish, but this is not a requirement. One of the great thing about meditation is that it can be done anywhere, anytime and by anyone and it does NOT require a bunch of money!

Myth #10: Meditation Takes A Lot Of Time

Last but not least, most people think they need a lot of time to meditate when in fact the opposite is true. Today I took a 15 minute break and meditated and it felt great! Yes, there are home study courses available (and they're great to use sometimes) but they're not necessary to have a successful meditation session. One of the things I love about meditating is that it's all about you! You can design a meditation practice that suites your needs so don't' wait any longer and try it out today!

(Guest Post)

Michael Mackenzie, who created LifeFlow meditation 2.0, makes bold claims by stating that the user will begin to feel the changes of anti-ageing hormones in just 8 minutes.

This claims stands to be true if examined under my personal experience. Just within 15 minutes, I began to feel much more relaxed and happy.

The entrainment program, LifeFlow Meditation 2.0 is a fantastic idea.

It will take you through audio meditations designed to nourish your mind. This in turn helps altering the ‘whole brain thinking’ and ‘whole brain synchronization’. Whole brain thinking means the working of the brain hemispheres in collaboration with each other. A sense of wellbeing and peace is formed as a result of this.

LifeFlow Meditation 2.0 system caught my attention because of the low rate it is available for and the actual experiences of people who are already using the LifeFlow meditation audios.

Regular meditation, in the light of scientific discoveries, helps lowering stress and anxiety levels. Mental clarity is also observed as a result of meditation.

I use LifeFLow meditation for many purposes. I use LifeFLow meditation if I am facing problems with my sleep. The desired effects of the meditation can be felt and seen only after listening to the track for 20 minutes. I can go into deep meditation by listening to the track for 40 minutes.

I suggest you to experiment with it and experience the changes yourself.

LifeFlow Meditation 2.0 - Details:

LifeFlow has 10 levels which are separated into audio tracks of 40 minutes duration. Tracks can be played on both computer and mp3 device, after quick installation. Instant download – is the way to begin!

Meditation music downloads have made a big impact on the self-improvement industry for some time now. Many lives have changed for the better because of them. However, not everyone has utilized or even heard of the many benefits these meditation audio tracks have to offer - accessibility, portability, and extreme convenience to name a few.

I'm sure you remember a time before the Internet was even born when purchasing goods and services required personal appearances and some form of travel, whether it be by foot, wheels, rail, water, or air. Looking back, one can't help but wonder, 'How did I manage to go through life like that?' Well, we did.

The Ultimate Meditation Kit - Guided Meditations

Thanks to technology and scientific developments, much like what you can learn from Holosync, life just got a little easier. Meditation music downloads and other equally inspired innovations have surely made our world a little smaller. Traditional meditation has enhanced and saved lives, that's for sure. But with these music tracks, you end up saving time, money, effort, and energy. This Equisync review, for example, has helped many discover just that.

When looking for meditation music downloads online, be sure to keep these 3 crucial points in mind:

1. The kind of music that calms you. Instrumental classics, sounds of nature, synthesized music with narrations, synthesized music without narrations - there are truly so many of them to choose from. You just need to set aside some time to go over a few samples and determine which is more appealing to you. After doing a little research, you'll end up with some seriously good ones, I bet.

2. Length of the meditation music. Meditation tracks are available in various lengths, but 20 to 30 minutes seem to be more than all right. Since you're just starting out, I suggest you go with something longer than the usual half hour. You can always switch to the shorter versions as soon as you get the hang of it.

3. Establish a budget. While some meditation music downloads hardly cost anything, others can be somewhat pricey. Keep a budget in mind so you don't go overboard.

Check out free samples online before paying full price for anything. That way, you get an idea of what the product or program is all about, and you can take it on a test-drive to guarantee maximum effectiveness. After going through these free tracks and samples, you'll have a clearer picture of what you truly look for in meditation music.

Keep in mind that meditation music downloads have normally the same objective, but could have varied effects on individuals. Getting the exact same download your colleague at work is using doesn't mean you'll be getting the exact same effects. Start off with something more known, like this Brain Evolution System review and go from there. Take the time to listen to sample downloads. Before you know it, you'll end up with a meditation track that's surely going to help you relax like you've never experienced before.

Let me refresh your memory with some of the more common types of meditation:
* Transcendental Meditation (otherwise known as TM)

* Buddhist Meditation

* Chakra Meditation

* Healing Meditation

* Guided Meditation

* Osho Meditation

* Vippassana Meditation

* Mindfulness Meditation

Does the term PDM sound familiar to you?

"PD What?" You're asking yourself?

PDM = Public Display of Meditation

Max Simon, a meditation guru and entrepreneur based out of L.A., has started the movement of Public Displays of Meditation. A public display of meditation is exactly what it sounds like...meditating in a public location. Max gathers groups of people and heads out onto the streets of whatever city he's in. They find the busiest location possible, sit down and start meditating when Max gives them the sign.

You're probably wondering what the point of meditating in a busy place is? And don't people usually meditate in quiet , private places?

Yes, meditating in a public place automatically puts you in a position with more distractions. But the cool thing is that having more outside distractions often encourages people to go deeper into their meditation practice. During a PDM, the meditator often experiences an increased level of connection with themselves as all attention is focused within. And of course you'll still reap all the benefits of meditation when you engage in Public Displays of Meditation.

My first PDM experience took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where I met Max Simon. The group of us walked in a single file line until we found a busy location in a mall where we began our meditation session. I remember I was excited and nervous to try this out because I didn’t believe I’d be able to meditate in a public place. The results were shocking and I’m pleased to report that I had my deepest meditation experience ever! A public display of meditation is an exihilerating experience and I recommend you try it with a group of people at least once

Do you meditate often? When you meditate, do you focus on specific words, ideas, or life situations?

You can use life quotes during the process of meditation to derive a heightened understanding of people and the world. You can also use quotations on life to develop a greater understanding of the self, of your life purpose, and destined role in this lifetime.

Deep Zen Meditation - Further Information

There are two chief methods that you can use to meditate that can help you derive deeper meaning from your favorite life quotes.

Don't you find that to attain success in today's competitive environment, multitasking is essential with greater processing speed and lesser reaction time? It is through meditation that you will enjoy farsighted decision-making power, you will be able to remain focused for longer and experience greater enthusiasm and vitality. It is through meditation that you will enjoy increased self esteem and improved interpersonal relations.

Regular meditation reduces stress and strengthens the connectivity between brain's pre-frontal cortex and other parts of the brain. Self development can be better attained through meditation. One can learn some simple and easy steps to meditate on a daily basis to ensure higher productivity and efficiency in all spheres of life.

Besides these benefits the greatest advantage of regular meditation is that it helps strengthen the immune system and will make you resilient to diseases. Uncontrolled emotional reactions such as fear, anger, anxiety, irritation, depression or negative stress are better managed.

Ask yourself, what else can this quotation on life teach me?" Then document your answers. This method of contemplation is particularly nice because you can later review your journal and see how you felt about the life quotes when you first encountered them.

When you review your written meditations you may find that your perspective about the quotation has changed. You can then re-document the quote and jot down your new thoughts about the quote in question.

It is fun to re-examine quotations to see how you have grown, how your mindset has changed, and to identify different areas in your life where the wise words of others caused you to think deeply.

Meditation will change your life for the better.

Meditation is one of the most powerful tools that if used properly, can help us achieve wealth, health and happiness. It will help us focus on joy and positivity and release negative thoughts.

It is one of the most important components to healing your mind, body and spirit.

Many People are intimidated by meditation, feeling like its only for monks and vegans:-) But please, think again!

Learn to Meditate - Further Information

Here are some misconceptions to clear up, so that YOU can start meditating today.

Meditation Is Just For Spiritual People and Buddhists

Meditation, while started in ancient east cultures, has become more and more mainstream. All types of people meditate - from layers and businessmen to athletes and everyday people.

Meditation, while can be used for spiritual enlightenment, can also be used to find inner peace and calm - for anyone. There are many meditation techniques. The Silva Method and Centerpointe are newer methods of meditation commonly used today.

You Have To Stop Thinking

This can sound impossible.

It is only natural, but contrary to popular beliefs, meditation is not only about completely stopping your thoughts or completely blanking your mind.

During meditation, when you feel you mind begin to wander, it natural, just stop and bring it back to the present and your meditation.

A good technique is to ask yourself “I wonder what my next thought will be?”. When put on the spot, your mind can stumble.

You Have To Sit In The Full Lotus Position

You do not have to sit on the floor in a full lotus position to meditate.

The most important thing is that you are a hundred percent comfortable, and most people are not comfortable in this position for long periods of time.

Its important that your spine is straight.

Be careful not to get too comfortable, or you might fall asleep.

Meditation Is Passive

While a main purpose of meditation is to relax and find an inner calm, it can also be used for a variety of other objectives.

Meditation can be used to visualize and achieve goals. Many people credit visualization as a key to their success. You can also use specific meditation techniques, like the silva method, to heal yourself, change bad habits and enhance your intuition.

Breathing is an important part of every type of meditation (both active and passive!) as focusing on the breath is an integral part of the practice.

Many forms of meditation begin by taking deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. It's also important to note that there are correct and incorrect breathing techniques. Take a deep breath right now and exhale. Did your body stretch upwards when you inhaled, followed by a slouch on your exhale? If you didn't notice the movement of your body the first time, take another deep breath and be mindful of how your body moves.

As you inhale, conscioulsy fill your belly with air and allow it to expand outwards and as you exhale consciously pull your belly button towards your spine. This might not feel natural at first, but this is the proper way to breath. Taking deep breaths like this allow more oxygen to circulate throughout the body and this will aid with your meditation practice.

Certain meditations have you hold your breath for a prolonged period of time. It's common to feel faint after holding your breath for an extended period of time because you're taking more oxygen in that what you're use to. There are many benefits to deep breathing though, one of them being improved circulation.

Other breathing exercises have you take 10 deep breaths in through the nose followed by 10 quick breaths out of the nose. Regardless of what type of breathing exercise you use, deep breathing will help your entire meditation practice. You'll be able to achieve greater relaxation and mental clarity, which will in turn lead to peace of mind and self-awareness.

Start being mindful of your breath in meditation and expand this focus to other areas of your life. Your meditation practice will improve and you'll experience the other benefits deep breathing has to offer!

Can you meditate your way to the perfect weight?

In this modern world we're bombarded with advertisements about the latest and greatest weight loss pill, drink or diet. Unfortunately, excess weight is an issue for many people and it's often more convenient to grab for an enticing diet pill vs. breaking a sweat at the gym.

Total health and wellness consists of 3 components: the mind, body and soul and it is vital that we take care of all 3 areas of our health. The benefits of meditation are plentiful and fortunately, meditation can aid in your weight loss journey.

Meditating involves deep breathing and relaxation exercises that bring you to a place of peace and calmness. Through meditation, it becomes much easier to live in the present moment and this in turn helps to reduce stress. Stress can take a toll on our bodies and it also effects our weight loss or gain. It's common for people to react to stress with emotional, overating and this typically leads to weight gain.

If you practice regular meditation, your stress levels will decrease and you'll also learn how to deal with stress in a more mindful manner.

Pairing meditation with positive visualization techniques is also an extremely effective way to achieve your ideal body image. Positive visualization is the act of visualizing your desired outcome. In this case, you would visualize something like this...

You're walking down the beach in your bathing suit feeling fit, toned and confident. You have an abundance of energy and you're able to experience everything you desire. Your skin is healthy and vibrant and you fell great!

Meditating for weight loss can also include affirmations. Choose a phrase that speaks to your heart. You might choose to repeat positive affirmations such as, "I am happy, healthy and fit and I am at my ideal body weight!".

The great thing about meditation is that you can choose the techniques that work best for you. If you already meditate, incorporate positive visualization or affirmations into your practice today. If you're looking to loose some weight and achieve the body of your dreams, practice meditation on a regular basis before you reach for the next product that's flashed before your eyes. Meditation is a natural, healthy way to achieve your goals and it's worth giving a shot.

Powerful meditation techniques are used every day by many people around the world to help them relax in today's stressful world. If you would like to really reduce stress, diminish tension, still your mind, meditation is an option. With so many techniques, it is easy to find a method that works for you. Creating a tranquil frame of mind has never been so effortless.

Meditation can be anything from simple breathing practices to using incense, music and candles. Some techniques are well known and many do not even realize it is a powerful meditation technique; others may be new to you. There is a profusion of different techniques.

Many know the benefits of meditation but it is also good to know the history. This practice is thousands of years old and there are different forms, such as Bodhidarma, Hinduism and Islam Meditation. Those who do know more about meditation will know that it is meant to open and balance your seven chakras.

It is wise to know the background of meditation as it will help you achieve a deeper level of understanding. You cannot stand to gain from meditation if you do not know anything about it. For beginners, there are many simple techniques. For those more advanced, there are also many techniques you can use.

One of the better known techniques is breathing. This is also a very easy meditation method you can do at any time. Sit comfortable in a quiet room, close your eyes and just breathe. Let it be a natural, uncontrolled breath. When you are breathing with genuine naturalness, start counting. After every breath, count one, two, three. Keep breathing for as long as you like.

You can also try Visualization Meditation. It is very similar to the previous example. You begin by breathing in and out slowly. When breathing in, feel positive energy coming into your body. When you breath out, kick the negative energy out too. After some time you should feel relaxed; imagine a scene that brings you further peace. Keep in that image and feel the weariness of stress escape you. When you are in a tranquil state, leave the image slowly.

If you feel you could become serious about meditation, it would be sensible to buy a book or look on the internet for more information and more techniques. That way you will not be limited by just two examples. You then be able to make meditation an everyday feature in your life.

The art of meditation can be a valuable tool for relieving the stresses of our modern world. Understand though that different individuals practice meditation with various techniques and methods. In general, meditation is used as a spiritual exercise. The purpose is to relax the body and the mind, and fortify the human soul with serenity. Of course, finding the time to delve into these ideas can be pressing. But, a proper practice of meditation can yield fantastic results.

Understand that there are several different methods you can explore regarding meditation. Around the globe, different cultures use different techniques. Even though ideas on this vary, there are basic ideas that should be incorporated. Learning to correctly use posture, breathing, and putting yourself in an ideal state of mind is of utmost importance.

Ideal posture is vital to acquiring a proper meditative technique. The most effective and ideal posture involves the crossing of ones legs and the straightening of the back vertically. Employ this position to help acquire a more peaceful bodily alignment.

Breathing is an important key to accomplishing spiritual serenity. Incorporating basic breathing techniques will calm your mind and help form a release from the stresses of our modern world. As one slows their pace and learns to control their breathing, it can be expected that a deep sense of inner peace will develop.

One of the most important, yet most difficult idea for beginners to take hold of is releasing yourself from your stresses and allowing your mind to take on a peaceful state. The goal is to free your mind from the frantic and static mental state that accompanies daily life. Although achieving this is tough in the beginning, with time it can become second nature. Soon, this will not only be a part of your meditation, but a part of your daily life.

The benefits of meditation in the immediate sense might not reflect the overall benefits of undertaking this spiritual exploration on a regular basis. There is a much greater impact to be felt than a simply relieving of day to day stress. In the end, finding a deep sense of spirituality and exploring the underlining meaning behind life's journey is the most precious benefit.

Today's fast paced world is often very difficult to cope with. Often, we lose sight of our true selves through a complete devotion to professional and personal goals. Simply slowing yourself down and undertaking this spiritual exercise will help complete your life through spiritual cohesiveness. By accomplishing this serenity, your overall life will benefit.

Regular meditation can bring very real benefits. However, you may be wondering about ultra deep meditation, whether it is possible to go into very deep meditative states, and what benefits there are to such a practice.

The purpose of this article is to give you a method that you can use to help you go into an ultra deep meditation state. The main technique I am going to be discussing is mantra meditation. I will also talk about using binaural beats to attain deep meditative states.

When you do mantra meditation, you repeat a sound or word continuously in your mind. What this does is it keeps your mind busy with a simple boring task while simultaneously letting the rest of your mind to deeply relax. We are going to be using the OM mantra.

First, sit in a comfortable upright position in a quiet room away from bright lights. Take a deep breath in, and then as you slowly breathe out say the word Ommmmm along with the out breath. Continue to do this for a few minutes, making the breaths deep and slow.

After a while, as you begin to feel quite relaxed, allow your breathing to settle back down to its normal rate, and then slowly shut your eyes. In this relaxed state, allow the mind to carry on repeating the Ommmm mantra at whatever tempo or rhythm feels most natural.

The crucial part of this technique is not to force the mantra. There is no right or wrong way for you to repeat the mantra. It does not matter what tempo or rhythm the mantra is repeated at. If it is fast, then that is fine. If it is slow, then that is fine too. Just effortlessly allow the mantra to float around in your mind.

While meditating, if at any time you find your mind has drifted away from your mantra and is caught up in thoughts, do not let it worry you. All you do is gently guide your mind back towards your mantra in an effortless way. Also, if you find yourself feeling blissfully relaxed and peaceful, then feel free to let the mantra fade away, and just rest in that deeply relaxed state.

After about 10 or 20 minutes of repeating your mantra, let your mantra drift away, and then just sit and relax with your eyes shut for a few more minutes. Then just slowly open your eyes again.

In addition to the mantra meditation (or even instead of it), another way to do ultra deep meditation is to use binaural beats. This entails playing slightly different frequencies into each ear, and your brain hears the difference in frequency and then matches its own brainwave frequency to it. This can cause extremely deep states of mind.

Self-hypnosis or meditation ... are there any differences?

I'm not an expert in meditation (in the sense that I haven't spent 20 years as a Buddhist Monk in a monastery or anything). I learned some meditation in Martial Arts training and I've practiced some 'following your breath' methods over the years. I've also 'played' with Shamanistic meditations; not the sort that the local healing center offers but the genuine kind led by a real live Shaman!

Some might consider me to be an expert in hypnosis ... and I've noticed some similarities between meditation and hypnosis; the hypnotic 'states' I've experimented with appear to be very similar to certain meditative states.

I've been asked on a number of occasions to assist people in getting into meditative states. I've picked up a number of 'tricks' over the years that may help you 'jump ahead' in the task of achieving a 'quiet mind' ... so see what happens when you weave some of the following insights into your meditation practice.

I'm assuming that the goal (at this point) is to 'shut off your internal dialogue'. When you first learn to hypnotise you notice that sometimes this effect occurs and other times it doesn't. The tips below are all about achieving 'inner silence' faster than you may have thought possible (something that every beginning meditator struggles with). If you want to do all 5 tips, try them in the order suggested below.

Before you start a session - close your eyes briefly and 'look-up' in your head as far as your eyes will go (don't overdo this for goodness sake) for a few seconds and then bring them forward. Do this a couple more times and then open your eyes for the next step. (Turning your eyes up in your head like this releases certain neurotransmitters that alter your brainwaves and your internal state.)

Visual flooding is a way of shutting down your internal voice. This is about focusing on nothing and everything at the same time. Imagine there is a surface in front of you (with your eyes open) and that you drop a pebble into it. Let your 'awareness' follow the ripples outwards in a circle right to the periphery of your vision while keeping the whole surface in view. You should have a 'blurry' field of vision - but not cross-eyed.

This next tip is premised on some research from a few years back where scientists discovered that 'internal dialogue' is linked directly to the motor cortex in the sense that nerve impulses travel to your tongue when you are talking to yourself in your head. When they 'paralyzed' the tongue an amazing thing happened - the 'subjects' internal dialogue closed right down. You don't need to go about paralyzing your tongue ... but you can get an effect closer to this by gently 'pulling' your tongue backwards in your mouth (be sensible people, you aren't trying to choke off your breathing or anything). This seems to 'close down' the language center in your brain and your internal dialogue decreases.

Let your awareness sink from your 'head' to your gut or navel. Imagine that your consciousness has sunk into your stomach. This will also tend to close down your internal dialogue. Martial Arts teach that your stomach is your energy center, as do a lot of Eastern traditions. It is also your center of gravity and keeping your awareness there really does 'ground' you and keeps you balanced.

If you are not already in a profoundly altered state after doing the above then carry on with your normal meditation practice. Some of you may feel like you've disassociated slightly ... like they've floated out the back of there head or something. Play with the sensation by imagining you have a small ball of energy, the size of a large orange, on the top-back of your head - and feel what it is like to have your awareness there.

DO NOT underestimate the power of this sequence of tips. Be gentle with your practice. Leave your expectations at the door. Be aware, curious ... and if you feel you've gone too far then snap your eyes open and shake yourself a bit. If I was a betting person I'd bet that if you practiced this for a week for 5 to 10 minutes you'd be able to achieve a significant reduction of internal dialogue in your meditation practice (actually it might be a profound reduction).

You've just saved yourself perhaps years of meditation practice!

Pleasant journey.

There is a lot of misconceptions about meditation and a lot of people call themselves meditation experts. Honestly, I do not buy into that for one simple reason. Meditation is about you. When you are meditating there will be no one else in your head except for you, so in the end you are the expert of your own meditation techniques. However, I will say that there are many people who can help you in learning how to meditate, but ultimately, if you are listening to them while you are meditating you are not focusing on your inner self but on your outer self.

I have been told that I am one of the most prolific writers out there. It is normal for me to sit down in the morning and by the afternoon I will have belted out 5 to 10 articles of 1,000 to 2,000 words and my editors would not print my material if it was not of excellent quality. One of the reasons I believe I am able to achieve this, is because of my meditation regime. When I have completed my meditation, my mind is free of stress and that really opens my creativity. It is just like what many writers suffer, what we like to call, "Writers block". Often, this is caused simply due to the chaos of the information in our head.

If I have a situation where writers block is really setting in, I simply stop, head to my meditation area for 20 minutes and once I am finished, I will always have a swirl of great ideas to complete my material. One thing to note though, I have found that meditation downloads, works best for getting that creativity flowing. I prefer this type of meditation music, over tranquil water flowing or the sounds of the open bush helps release far more alpha waves in my brain.

Even though meditation has been practiced for thousands of years, people today have a great advantage because of the many tools and resources available to them. New Age meditation is accessible to just about anyone regardless of their personal background or philosphical proclivities.

New Age meditation certainly has its roots in traditional meditation practices of the East; however, it also integrates numerous spiritual philosophies, as well as the modern philosophies that we have accepted into our everyday lives. Along with New Age Meditation numerous specific meditation practices were spawned including transcendental meditation, guided imagery, and chi meditation.

It's important to make sure you use a good meditation system, whether it is chi meditation or any of the other popular disciplines.

Because New Age meditation is practiced all over the world, it is easy to find others in your area who can help you learn how to meditate effectively. Many cities even offer meditation groups, so you won't feel like you have to learn meditation alone.

One big difference between traditional types of meditation and New Age meditation is in the use of various forms of meditation music. Traditionally meditation is performed in silence while New Age meditation makes use of instrumental music to help practitioners get into a deep meditative state. Chanting and drumming are also used, as well as singing bowls. Group meditations may or may not use music so you have the option to compliment your meditations buy buying some meditation music for when you meditate on your own.

New Age practitioners have been using natural stones to help them reach a much deeper meditative state and to help prepare their minds to remove many of their emotional blocks. A good example would be if you wanted to increase your spiritual awareness, you may want to use a quartz crystal. Likewise, if the purpose of a meditation session is to increase love and compassion, the practitioner might surround him or herself with rose quartz stones.

New Age Meditation Popularity

New Age meditation has become so popular today because it can be tailored to meet our individual objectives, personalities and goals. Unlike the Eastern based meditation practices, New Age meditation has very few rules to follow. To develop your own unique style of meditation you just need to find the meditation techniques that work best for you.

Whatever you want to accomplish, New Age meditation is a simple, flexible, and effective tool for changing your life. And the fact that you don't have to spend countless hours in silence each and every day, it can easily be fit into your busy lifestyle. Regardless of whether you only have 5 or 10 minutes a day to perform your meditations, you can still get many benefits.

Find out about many more meditation techniques that will help you to make a decision if New Age meditation is right for you.

When we say someone is 'telepathic' are we talking about something that really exists? Most people think not—they dismiss the idea as mysticism or science fiction. On the other hand, don't we live in a world where people fly on a regular basis? Where information floats invisibly through the air for use with laptops and cell phones? Where anyone can conjure a tongue of flame in their hand with the use of a $1 cigarette lighter?

Is has been said that a sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. The human race has used science and technology to learn things about the natural world we never knew. We've done things that were considered impossible flights of fancy jut a hundred years ago. We've had men walk on the bottoms of the oceans and on the surface of the moon (and we did it with technology that, by today's standards, seems primitive). We can gather energy from the sun, the wind, and the water. And anyone can have a small device in their pocket that allows them to talk to anyone anywhere in the world. But this isn't magic, its science… right?

To believe an individual may be telepathic has been considered mysticism, which is another word for magic. And it really isn’t much of a stretch to believe in the possibility of a Telepathic person. An individual who developed these mental properties, is misunderstood by many people.

Paraphysicists and parapsychologists scientifically study telepathy and telepaths. The neither try to prove telepathy, nor disprove it. They only want to know if it is an authentic phenomenon and if it can be better understood if it is.

Or is it? 'Thought waves', defined as an electrical and magnetic fiend generated by the brain, has been proven to exist. This is the keystone that scientific Telepathic studies rest on. We'll try to explain it in layman's terms, but it may get a little complicated, so just bear with us.

Scientifically, human thought is just a biochemical process of neurons being transferred between different synapses in the brain. However, this transfer of neurons creates an electrical current—tiny, sure, but measurable. This electrical current also generates a tiny magnetic field. Keep in mind the brain has tens of thousands of synapses firing at any one time.

..Or, is it? One thing that science does know and acknowledge is that there are electromagnetic waves generated by the brain called 'thought waves'. And researchers who have not dismissed telepathy say that this is the key insight that is needed to understand it.

Another problem is the weakness of the electrical or magnetic field. It can easily be drowned out by the electrical and magnetic fields of everyday technology—stereos, televisions, computers, even microwaves and refrigerators all send out much larger electrical and magnetic fields.

Is it possible for these bio-electric and bio-magnetic fields to be used by humans to communicate? Are these waves just meaningless static or do they have content equivalent of the brain? Can these brain waves be controlled by mental training? Can the techniques of meditation be used to shape brain waves into communications of significance?

Another problem could be the relative weakness of the brain's electromagnetic field. We have computers, cell phones, TV sets, stereos, and appliances all over the place today; and they all generate electromagnetic fields-stronger ones than the brain's, meaning they might interfere with the brain's transmission capacity.

Unfortunately, there is not enough scientific evidence at the moment to prove that telepathy is a fact beyond doubt, as far as mainstream science is concerned. However this is gradually changing as more and more studies are showing that telepathic communication really does exist and with the right training, all humans can learn to become telepathic.

Researchers of parapsychology have documented brief Telepathic communications. One instance is a mothers knowing her child has been hurt, even though they are separated by many miles. This fear and anxiety the parent experiences creates the spiking of neurons and is this brain activity telepathically communicating? Does the relationship between two individuals contribute to telepathy? Or perhaps is this all just coincidence?

While mainstream science remains doubtful about telepathy because of the lack of consistent experimental results, this is a slowly changing attitude. As more research gets conducted, more researchers are convinced that telepathy must be real-and we just need to get the experiments right to understand it and be able to allow everyone to be trained one level or another as a telepath.

For those that are new to astral projecting, there can be a number of stumbling blocks that you need to overcome to successfully astral project. First you need to understand that you have the ability, everyone does. So this isn’t about trying to learn something new, or force something that isn’t nature. Look at it as something that you have to fine tune, like roller skating, cartwheels, riding a bike. You never forget how to do these activities, when you haven’t done them in a long time you do have to practice. The same holds true for astral projecting.

The thing which most people tend to find the most difficult about learning astral projecting is the ability to relax completely. You have to relax both body and mind in order to successfully astral project. There are a few different methods which can help you to attain this relaxed state, including breathing techniques and muscle relaxation.

Naturally though if the environment is not conducive to promoting a relaxed environment then your astral projection session is not going to go as smoothly or be as successful as you would like it to be. Here are a number of tips that you can follow to help get the most out of your preparation.

*Take off any jewelry and change out of any clothing which is restrictive or uncomfortable. Many choose to remove their clothes before astral projecting, but the important thing here is to make yourself comfortable so that you can relax fully.

*Make sure that the room you are going to relax in and practice your astral projecting is dark. Dark enough so that light can not be seen through your eyelids, but you shouldn’t turn off all the lights.

*With your head pointed north, lie down along a north-south axis. This should be easy to figure out with the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. So if our of your bedroom window you can see the sunset that means you need to be laying along the window, not with your head or feet pointing towards the window.

*While you practice astral projecting, make sure that the clothes you wear keep you warm, but are comfortable and loosely fitting.

*Make sure that you have a place which is quiet and where you will not be distracted as you practice your astral projecting.

*Start using your relaxation techniques (you should also practice these outside of your astral projecting sessions). If you want to astral project, you have to be completely relaxed.

*Give yourself suggestions to help you remember what you see and do when astral projecting. Tell yourself at least five times before you begin "I will remember". Having pen and paper nearby is a good idea, since you can then write down what happened as soon as you return to your body.

*Continue to practice your breathing.

*As you are breathing focus on the blackness in front of you.

*Start to focus on a point which is about one foot away from your forehead. Once you have done this, move your focus to a point about six feet away.

*After this, think of a line which runs perpendicular to your body from your focal point six feet away.

By following these tips, you’ll be well prepared for astral projecting. In order to get the best results from astral projection, you need to be in full control mentally. Your astral body may wander off randomly otherwise, which is a waste of your efforts. You can go anywhere and do anything when you are astral projecting, so make sure to think of where you’d like to go and what you’d like to do.

Those who are well practiced at astral projecting have reported being able to perform feats which their physical bodies would be unable to do and even speaking with departed loved ones. Remember, astral projection is something you have done before. You know those dreams where you wake up and remember everything vividly? Those were actually astral travels – and with practice, you can astral project at will and gain many benefits.
