Meditation for Stress Relief
Meditation for Stress Relief - Meditation is one of the most effective forms of stress relief and is often recommended by both mainstream and alternative medical practitioners.
Studies show that meditating for just a few minutes each day can reduce stress levels and help you cope better mentally and physically.
It has been proven that stress has a direct effect on both your physical and mental health and has been linked to virtually every disease and condition known to man!
Examples of emotional/psychological symptoms are Anxiety Disorders and Depression. Stress can impact negatively on health disorders such as Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Immune System Disorders, Bowel & Intestinal Ill health and Headaches to name just a few! The bottom line is that stress can cause serious damage.
We have to face the fact that stress is a certainty at some time for everyone. The important thing is that we find a way to release the tensions and effects of stress so that it does not impact negatively on our lives.
What is Stress?
There are many different definitions of stress and here are just a few:
- Anything that directly disrupts our lives is a cause for stress.
- The adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed upon them (from the UK Health & Safety Executive website)
- A condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize
- A biological term which refers to the consequences of the failure of a human or animal body to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats to the organism, whether actual or imagined. (Hans Selye)
- The emotional and physical strain caused by our response to pressure from the outside world. (from EHealthMD)
However you define it, there is no doubt that stress is a serious problem which has many different effects the way we feel affects everything in our lives.
Often when people are particularly stressed, conventional meditation can be very difficult as it is not easy to quiet you thoughts and mind when you are in this state. However, using a guided meditation CD or audio download can be very useful in such a situation.
Guided meditations can be very effective in helping to become calm and relaxed more easily. A lot of people find that they can relax more effectively and deeply by listening to an audio meditation. There are many excellent meditation audios out there and you will probably need to experiment with a few to see which work best for you, for example, some have music and some don t and the style and voice will influence how it will affect you.
Below is an example of a highly recommended, tried and tested, guided meditation for stress relief, calmness and relaxation:
After practicising meditation for stress relief you will feel more relaxed, calmer and have a greater sense of well-being, which will stand you in good stead to face the stresses and strains of everyday life.
